(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman was injured after she crashed her vehicle on State Road 58 on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 21-year-old Shayla R. Nelson of Bedford suffered severe bleeding to her head and was taken by an AMR ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital from treatment.

Police say Nelson was driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring east on State Road 58 near Fellowship Drive when she drove off the edge of State Road 58, steered back on the road and then lost control of the car. The vehicle spun around, crossed the center line and traveled off the north side of the road, striking a fence post and a large tree.

Police say Nelson was not wearing a seat belt and the airbag deployed during the incident.

Assisting at the scene was an AMR ambulance crew and Shawswick VFD first responders and the Bedford Fire Department extrication unit.
