Bedford Man Sentenced To Maximum Sentence In Domestic Battery Case

Last updated on Wednesday, May 17, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was sentenced Monday to the maximum sentence of two and a half years in prison on a charge of domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony.

31-year-old Jermaine Thornon of Bedford was found guilty by a Superior Court I jury on April 15th. The jury deliberated for almost five hours before rendering their verdict.

Court records say that, during the sentencing, Thornton admitted to a new charge of invasion of privacy for incidents that occurred while he was being held in jail. He was charged with the offense February 14th. He was sentenced to one year on that charge.

The two sentences will run consecutively.

Thornton was arrested after his then girlfriend reported that he choked her with a belt while forcing her to perform a sexual act on him.

He is also accused of physically and emotionally abusing his then girlfriend of seven years.

The woman told police that Thornton choked her with a cloth belt, cutting off her air supply. She asked him to stop, but he refused and threatened to kill her.

She says Thornton then forced her to perform a sex act on him while he was still choking her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone. He then used the belt that had metal rings on it to beat her.
