AmeriCorps Team To Join Energy Challenge Conservation Program

Last updated on Tuesday, May 16, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Monroe County Energy Challenge (MCEC) will be working with its second AmeriCorps team this spring to provide free home energy assessments to residents to help improve energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact.

This spring, the Monroe County Energy Challenge will continue its successful energy conservation programs with the help of eight AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) volunteers. As part of the effort, residents can sign up in May to receive individualized recommendations on ways to reduce energy use and save money in their home, in addition to basic weatherization. More than 500 energy assessments have already been completed by the MCEC.

"We are thrilled to welcome our second NCCC AmeriCorps team this year" said Mayor John Hamilton. "The previous team provided free air sealing and attic insulation to 20 local, income-qualified homes and we are excited to further expand our energy conservation programs this spring."

The team will also be working with the Hoosier to Hoosier Community Sale, which intercepts reusable items during student move out to keep them out of the landfill and raise funds for local organizations. In addition, the team will assist with programs at the South Central Community Action Program's Growing Opportunities Greenhouse.

The Monroe County Energy Challenge helps our community reduce energy use in order to improve quality of life, minimize environmental impact, and save money. To sign up for a free home energy assessment visit mocoenergychallenge.org/ or call (812) 349-3558.
