Last updated on Wednesday, April 26, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A 14-year-old Bedford girl was arrested Tuesday night after she hit her mom with a baseball bat during a domestic fight.

Lawrence County police were called to a home in the 1110 block of Breckenridge Road at 6:27 p.m. after the mother called to say she had been injured by her daughter.

According to Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, when officers arrived they discovered that the teen had left the home.

"During the investigation [officers] learned that a verbal argument lead to the daughter allegedly using the bat to batter the victim, cause damage to the inside of the residence and to a parked 2005 Dodge Caravan," Chief Deputy Shoults added. "Officers observed damage to drywall inside the home and a taillight was broken out on the rear of the van along with scratches and dents."

The mother suffered injuries to her toes on both feet, abrasion to her right thumb and bruising to her right upper arm.

Officers located the daughter a short time later and she was arrested on charges of battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery and criminal mischief.

"The Lawrence County Probation Department was notified and a probation officer later detained the daughter on these charges," Chief Deputy Shoults added. "The daughter was subsequently transported to the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center."

The mother was treated for her injuries at IU Health Hospital and released.
