South-Central Indiana Sees Improvements In Employment

Last updated on Wednesday, April 26, 2017

(UNDATED) - Counties in south-central Indiana counties saw improvements in employment compared since March of last year.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development's report on March 2017's unemployment numbers show an increase in employment in the regions.

Indiana's unemployment rate for that period is below the nation's, and continues to improve upon last year's state unemployment rate.

Within the state, unemployment stands at 3.8 percent, last year's was 5.1 percent.

The nation's overall joblessness rate also improved from 5.1 percent in March 2016 to 4.6 percent this year.

Per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), sub-state level data are not seasonally adjusted due to sample size. For example, over the course of a year, the size of the labor force, employment and unemployment levels, and other measures of labor market undergo fluctuations due to seasonal events including changes in weather, harvests, major holidays, and school schedules. Therefore, for more accurate comparisons, data should be compared to the same month from prior years, not the previous month, as to better account for non-economic factors.
