Pool To Get New Saltwater Filter System

Last updated on Thursday, April 13, 2017

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford of Works Tuesday approved a request of the Bedford Parks Department during a special meeting to transform the filtration system at John Lowery Municipal Pool from chlorine to saltwater.

Jeskewich says the original filtration system at the pool is about 30 years old. Officials have been setting aside money in a non-reverting fund to replace the system.

Switching to saltwater is cheaper and safer, and it's easier on skin, eyes, swimsuits, pipes and conduits, Jeskewich says.

The total cost of the new system from Spear Corp. will cost around $200,000.

The Times Mail (tmnews.com) reports Spear Corp. will take back the chemicals ordered last fall and will issue the board a credit of $19,000 toward the payment for the new system. Spear has guaranteed they can have the system ready and the pool open for business by May 20.
