(PATOKA) - This weekend, Patoka Lake will be the backdrop for Renaissance-themed fun as the Blackhawk Manor Renaissance Festival takes over the beach in the state park.

Visitors will be able to see several performances, a raptor show featuring Indiana birds of prey, combat demonstrations and live music, all to support a scholarship for the students at Springs Valley High School in French Lick.

The Raptor show, conducted by a DNR naturalist on Saturday only, will feature birds of prey which fly the Indiana skies. The naturalist will discuss each raptor's hunting abilities, as well as its natural habit, and answer questions about the different predators.

Combat demonstrations will be conducted by the Order of the Forgotten, a group from northern Indiana which specializes in sword and staff fighting. Combatants will demonstrate their skill during both days of the festival.

Music is always a favorite part of the Renaissance festival, and Angus MacHughe the Scottish Pirate will sing ballads and chanties, some his original work, during his performance.

Celtica Fae from Louisville will perform Celtic music, featuring Oakley the Woodland Faerie on her fiddle.

A new duo, Maggie and the Tinker, will perform a variety of Renaissance and pub songs.

Plus there will be vendors of all types, from Renaissance clothing to weapons to food concessions, including the popular Royal Sandwiches vendor.

One young lady and a young gentleman will be crowned Princess and Prince of the festival each day, and some Disney Princesses will be visiting with festival attendees and will pose for photos.

Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tickets are $10 per adult for either day, and a two-day admission is $15. Youth tickets for 6- to 17-year-olds are $5 each day or $7 for both. Ages five and under are free. Children age 10 and under in costume are admitted free.
