(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University is planning to invest up to half a million dollars to increase child care services.

Officials say renovations will begin this summer at the Campus Children's Center along 10th Street, with January 2018 as the target for completion. The renovations, estimated to cost between $400,000 to $500,000, will result in three new classrooms at the Campus Children's Center, allowing it to accept 40 more children.

The center will also hire additional staff, including two full-time employees for each classroom.

Priority for enrollment is given to families with a connection to IU-Bloomington, whether that's faculty, staff or students. Children from the community are enrolled only if the waiting list is exhausted of all IU-Bloomington affiliated children, and that's rare.

About 170 children are enrolled at the three professionally staffed centers on the Bloomington campus.
