Last updated on Monday, April 10, 2017

(LINTON) - An accident Friday afternoon claimed the life of a Worthington woman.

According to an Indiana State Police report, just after 4 p.m. a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 75-year-old Patsey L. Munson was traveling southbound on State Road 59 northwest of Linton when for an unknown reasons, Munson continued to drive her vehicle the wrong way (southbound) onto a one way (northbound) section of State Road 59.

As Munson approached the intersection of State Road 54 and State Road 59, traveling the wrong way, she failed to yield to a northbound 2014 Volvo semi-tractor and trailer driven by 43-year-old Stacey Thomas, of Clinton, Indiana.

Thomas told troopers he attempted to avoid the collision by applying his brakes and swerving in an attempt to avoid impact but was unable to do so.

Munson died at the scene.

Thomas was not injured during the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were deputies with the Greene County Sheriff's Department, first responders from Linton Fire Department and Wright Township Fire Department and emergency personnel with the Greene County Ambulance Service and Sullivan County SCAT1 Ambulance Service.
