Last updated on Thursday, April 27, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington Housing and Neighborhood Development Department (HAND) announced Citizens’ Academy 2017 program applications are now available.

Citizens' Academy provides participants with an interactive learning experience about municipal government services, programs and responsibilities.

City residents who are interested in civic participation or increasing their knowledge about local government operation can apply online at the City of Bloomington's web site at bloomington.in.gov/citizensacademy. The deadline for 2017 Citizens' Academy applications is Monday, July 10.

The 2017 Citizens' Academy will meet every Thursday from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m., August 31 through October 26. The program will be limited to a total of 30 participants to ensure a quality experience for all participants.

Meagan Benetti, a graduate of the 2016 class, shared this about her experience, "I loved the field trips and hearing about the budgets/structure of the departments, as well as hearing about the many functions of each department. The presentations were really well done and I learned a tremendous amount about all the work that goes into making Bloomington a great city to live in."
