(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police are investigating a sexual assault that happened in the Wendy's restroom.

Officers were called at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday to Potbelly Sandwich Shop where a 29-year-old woman had fled to call police.

The woman told police she had met a 6-foot tall black man who was around 240 pounds and had tattoos on his forearm at the Monroe County Public Library earlier that day. The two had left together and walked down the B-Line Trail where he then forced her behind a storage unit and forced her to perform oral sex.

The two then went to Wendy's at Second Street and College Avenue where she says the man forced her into the men's restroom and raped her.

They then left the establishment and walked downtown where she was able to escape and call police.

The woman told police she had not tried to escape earlier because the man had told her he was with a gang and would deal with anyone that crossed him.

Police were able to identify the 50-year-old transient man who told police he had sex with the woman but it was consensual.

Sgt. John Kovach says the case remains under investigation as police review security footage. He asks that any one with information about the incident to call police.
