Bedford Man Arrested After Body Slamming Male In Walmart Parking Lot

Last updated on Wednesday, April 19, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Saturday at Walmart after he allegedly injured another man during a fight in the parking lot.

Police arrested 22-year-old Landon Cooper of Bedford on a felony charge of battery causing serious bodily injury.

According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, an on duty officer was driving near the front entrance of the store when he saw a group of people and one male lying on the ground.

"One of those people informed the officer that a S-10 pickup that was driving away was involved in an altercation with the person on the ground," Chief Deputy Shoults says. "The officer stopped the truck in the parking lot and found Cooper was a passenger in that vehicle."

Police determined that the male victim had been battered by Cooper after Cooper confronted him about alleged statements the victim may have made about Cooper.

"The victim suffered an injury to his lip and complained of back pain after being "body slammed" by Mr. Cooper," Chief Deputy Shoults says. "The victim was taken to IU Health Hospital for treatment and Mr. Cooper was arrested."
