(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he injured a woman by pulling her off a couch and kicking her.

Police arrested 33-year-old Joshua Wood of Bedford on a charge of battery causing bodily injury.

According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, officers said the domestic fight happened on Tuesday at a home in the 20 block of Eastside Lane, but was not reported until 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

"A verbal argument took place between Woods and the female victim, who were living together," added Chief Deputy Shoults. "This argument continued from inside the home to inside a vehicle parked outside the home and escalated to a physical confrontation over property."

The victim alleges that Woods attempted to get a cell phone from her and then followed her back inside the home where he grabbed her by the legs and pulled her from the couch to the floor.

The woman told police that Woods then kicked her several times before leaving the home. She complained of neck pain and suffered bruising to her arms, wrists and chest.

Lawrence County Police located Woods on Wednesday at the home of a family and arrested without incident.
