Three Teens Facing Theft Charge After Stealing Puppy From College Mall Pet Store

Last updated on Thursday, March 9, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - Three 13-year-olds were apprehended after they allegedly stole a English bulldog and beagle mix from Anthony’s Pets in College Mall in Bloomington.

The puppy, known as a beabull, was reported stolen around 7 p.m. Monday, after the owner Tony Taboas noticed the pup missing. He was concerned because the 3-month old female puppy was sick and being treated with antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection.

Taboas told police four juveniles had been looking at the dog and continually keep coming in and out of the store.

Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams say surveillance footage shows a girl entering a back room, which has a back exit from the store, around 6 p.m. The video does not show the girl leaving the back room, so police believe she exited with the pup out the back exit.

Capt. Kellams says the owner then noticed the juveniles back in the mall on Tuesday and called police.

All three were apprehended on a charge of theft and the puppy was returned to the store. The teens were referred to juvenile probation.
