ThinkGeek To Open In College Mall

Last updated on Wednesday, March 15, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - ThinkGeek to open in the College Mall.

The store offers collectibles and novelty items for Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Minecraft, Zelda, Marvel, Game of Thrones, DC Comics, Geek Labs and more.

ThinkGeek is obsessed with creating and sharing unique and authentic product experiences that stimulate fans' imaginations and fuel their geek core. The staff will interact with customers and may even battle them in a lightsaber battle.

Their manifesto is: they believe you should live long and prosper, with the Force; that pi never ends at 3.14;
that it's perfectly ok to have crushes on comic book characters; in never quitting until you level up; that "Star Wars or Star Trek" is a meaningful first date question; somebody else is totally into that, too; humanity will colonize other worlds; that you will "make it so"; in doing unto others as R2-D2; telepathy is awesome, but not reliable, so we use open communication; every room should have a "ninja-only" exit; that we are not alone; life is more fun when you're wearing a cape and that everyone is a superhero to someone.

The store's grand opening will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, March 24 at their store in the former Simply Mac space across from Bath and Body Works.

The store's first 1,000 visitors will receive a limited edition Bloomington ThinkGeek apparel pin, and other prizes will be given away.

There will be a Cosplay contest - dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime. Participants in character costumes will have the chance to win a pair of three-day passes to this year's Indy PopCon, the Indiana Pop Culture and Comic Con.

ThinkGeek started in 1999 as an online retailer and was acquired in 2015 by GameStop Corp., a video game, consumer electronics and wireless services retailer. The store's first brick-and-mortar location opened in Orlando, Florida, later that year. The store now has 26 locations across the country, with Indiana stores at the Castleton and Greenwood malls.
