(BLOOMINGTON) - A 17-year-old male was arrested and sent to juvenile detention after he allegedly stole an Trailblazer and was apprehended in a Walmart parking lot.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, police received a call at 1:18 a.m. Monday from a resident in the 2300 block of South Rogers Street who reported his black 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer had just been stolen.

The resident had left the vehicle unlocked with the keys inside.

Capt. Kellams says while officers were investigating the stolen SUV, Monroe County police received a call about suspicious activity at a house on South Elm Leaf Drive.

Both city and county officers responded to the scene and found the stolen vehicle parked on the street.

Soon after, police found two males in the parking lot of the nearby Walmart. One of them, a 20-year-old, was released.

Capt. Kellams says the male was the missing teenager, who had been reported as a runaway on Sunday. Police found the teenager with the keys to the stolen Trailblazer in his pocket.

The teen refused to answer questions. He was arrested on felony charges of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
