(HELTONVILLE) - A Springville man was arrested after he knocke a woman down and entered her house Friday afternoon.
Lawrence County Police arrested 30-year-old Jeffery Ketchem on charges of residential entry, possession of meth and battery. He was booked into the jail a 3:54 p.m.
According to Sheriff Mike Branham, police received a 911 call at 2:53 p.m. from a woman in the 1880 block of Pleasant Run Road. She said that a male she did not know had forced his way into her home.
"The woman attempted to hold the door shut. The man, later identified as Jeffery Ketchem, shoved the door, knocking the woman to the ground and forced his way into her home," Sheriff Branham says. "She called police and the dispatcher told her to take her two-year-old child and lock themselves in a room in the house until police arrived."
The male left before police arrived. Shortly thereafter officers got a second call saying Kethem was in the 1920 block of Pleasant Run Road and was knocking on doors and windows wanting residents to let him in.
"Officers found him hiding behind a gas tank," Sheriff Branham added.
Police determined Ketchem was wanted on a warrant out of Monroe County and arrested him.
"They did a search and found needles, alcohol swabs, spoons and a clear baggie that contained a white-crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine," Sheriff Branham added.
Ketchem told police he had been at a friend's house down the road and had gotten into an argument with his friend's father or uncle.
"He couldn't remember which person he had got into the argument with and had ran from the residence," Sheriff Branham added.
Ketchem was then charged with residential entry and battery after knocking the woman down with the door when he forced his way into her home.
The woman did not suffer any serious injuries during the incident.
Once at the jail, officers found a second baggie that contained a white-powdery substance which also tested positive for meth.
"The total of the two baggies contained 1 gram of meth," Sheriff Branham says.
