SPARK Clubs Offer Learning Opportunities For Youth

Last updated on Monday, March 6, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County 4-H is offering two new learning opportunities for students in grades 3-12. You don’t have to be enrolled in 4-H to attend.

The SPARK clubs are for youth interested in sewing and painting, and they're open to youth regardless. However, if a student is not enrolled in 4-H, there is a $20 fee, which also gives the student the chance to participate in all other 4-H clubs, projects and activities.

SPARK clubs include at least six hours of instruction. To register for either club, call the Lawrence County Purdue Extension office at (812) 275-4623.

Painting

The painting SPARK club is seeking participants in third through sixth grade, and it includes techniques and color theory, instructor-led painting and creating your own still life painting. Meetings will be held in the Mitchell Junior High School art room from 5-7 p.m. on March 27, April 3 and April 11.

Supplies and snack will be provided. Register by March 13. There are 24 spots available.

Sewing

The sewing SPARK club is for anyone in grades 3-12, and participants will learn sewing machine basics while making pillowcases and other fun projects. The club will be at two locations: Mitchell High School and Shawswick Middle School.

The club will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 18, 1-4 p.m. April 29 and 1-4 p.m. May 6. Supplies are estimated to cost $10-15.

Register by April 11. There are 10 spots available for each location.
