(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour man accused of raping and holding a woman against her will was arrested after an officer pulled the woman out of the home through a window early Monday morning.
A Jackson County Sheriff's Department deputy was called to the home of 46-year-old Alan Karenke after someone reported that a rape occured at the home in the 3700 block of West County Road 1125 North.
The report says that when Officer Jesse Hutchinson knocked on the door, Karenke came to the door in a bath robe and asked what the deputy wanted. When Hutchinson told Karenke about the allegations and asked to be allowed inside, Karenke allegedly cursed at him, told Hutchinson that he needed a warrant and went back inside.
According to probable cause affidavit, "due to the circumstances of a possible rape that had occurred, I went to the front in an attempt to try and gain entry," Hutchinson wrote. "As I was coming around the house, I observed on the far northwest side of the house a female with blonde hair had her head out of the window."
"I asked her if she was okay, and I observed her look back at the door in the room," Hutchinson added. "And at this time, I grabbed her out of the window and brought her back to my patrol car in the driveway."
According to police, the 18-year-old told authorities that she had awoken that night to find Karenke performing a sex act on her. The teen says that after the alleged assault, she tried to leave, but was trapped by Karenke. He also took her cellphone and refused to return it.
The teen told police that three children were inside the home. Karenke still would not allow the officer inside and would not come out, but he eventually agreed to talk to Hutchinson on the phone and asked to speak to his attorney. Karenke refused to let the children to come out of the home.
In the meantime the Jackson County Special Operations Response Team was called to the scene. Officers went in through a window and tased Karenke, subdued and arrested him on felony charges of rape, robbery and criminal confinement and misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement and interfering with reporting a crime.
The children were found to be unharmed.
He is being held without bond at the Jackson County Jail.
A trial date was set for August 29th and 8:30 a.m.
