(ORLEANS) - Orleans Town Officials and emergency personnel are reminding residents they will be testing the town’s emergency sirens on Tuesday.
The first drill will be approximately 10:15 a.m. and the second drill will be held at 7:35 p.m. In case of unsettled or severe weather on Tuesday, the test will be rescheduled for March 22.
The National Weather Service relays severe weather directly to the Orange County Sheriff's office, which then activates the town's tornado warning system. The siren indicates a tornado or severe weather is possible in the Orleans area.
During stormy weather, residents are urged to remain alert and stay tune to their local television, radio stations and weather radios for the most up to date weather information and be prepared to move quickly to a designated "safe area," should conditions develop and the emergency siren is activated. Residents should also be mindful of the fact that emergency sirens are designed mainly for "outdoor" warning use and may not always be heard indoors. Again local television, radio and weather radios are the primary sources of severe weather related information.
