North Daviess Schools May Start 10 Minutes Later

Last updated on Friday, March 24, 2017

(WASHINGTON CO.) - If you attend or work at North Daviess Schools, your day may start 10 minutes later in the future.

The Washington Times Herald reports that the change is to gain more daylight for students and bus drivers.

The elementary day would start at 8:30 a.m. and go to 3:06 p.m. while the Junior/Senior School day would be from 8:15 a.m. until 3:15 p.m..

The idea is still under consideration.

The board is also being asked to consider offering pre-school next year.

Currently there is Head Start at North Daviess, operated by PACE, but most don't qualify financially for that program open to kids 3 to 5 years old.

School Superintendent Bob Bell told the Washington Times Herald that some parents in the North Daviess Community driver their kids 20 miles to pre-school.

School administrators told board members that if a pre-school class or two are offered, additional rooms could be added to the elementary if needed.

The recommendation is still under consideration.
