(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was arrested on Saturday after Lawrence County Police received a 911 call about a man out of control.

According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, officers went to a home on Clark Smith Road at 2:19 a.m. after a female caller reported 24-year-old William Tolbert was yelling and throwing tree stumps at vehicles.

"Officers arrived to find Mr. Tolbert in the front yard of the residence and that he had broken out a windshield and headlight of a vehicle," Chief Deputy Shoults added. "When officers approached Mr. Tolbert he appeared to be intoxicated from his appearance and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Mr. Tolbert refused to cooperate with the officers and was belligerent and verbally threatening and cussing at them."

Tolbert was in possession of a pocket knife and while being patted down by the officer, he attempted to jerk away and had to be held down and cuffed.

"Mr. Tolbert continued being belligerent and resisting officers, refusing to get into the patrol car," Chief Deputy Shoults added. "At that point he attempted to kick officers several times."

Tolbert was transported to the Lawrence County Security Center on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest by force.
