Man Arrested After Putting Woman In Bear Hug

Last updated on Wednesday, March 22, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after officers were called to a home in the 2480 block of Budd Stipp Road on Monday night.

Lawrence County police responded to the home at 9:38 p.m. after a woman called 911 and reported that 20-year-old Tony May attempted to steal her Xanax medication while she was asleep.

"A verbal argument over the attempted theft took place and then escalated into Mr. May getting the female into a bear hug from behind, still attempting to take the medication from her," says Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults. "The female fought her way out of the bear hug and exited the home with May following her calling names and using profanity."

May was arrested on a charge of domestic battery.
