(ODON) - The quick action by Indiana State Police Troopers led to the arrest of a home intruder at a residence in Odon.

At 9:52 a.m. Monday, the Daviess County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call from a resident at 11340 East County Road 1675 North in rural Odon. The caller reported that a man had entered her home through the basement, and that she and her eight children had locked themselves into a bedroom.

Master Trooper Gaven Wilson heard the call being dispatched and responded immediately.

At 9:57 a.m., Wilson arrived at the home and was told by two individuals outside that the intruder was in the house.

As Wilson approached the front door, 27-year-old Nicholas Whetstine of Newburgh was walking out of the home. Wilson ordered Whetstine to the ground at gunpoint and placed him in handcuffs on the front porch without incident.

Troopers learned through their investigation that this was the second home on the property that Whetstine had entered Monday morning.

Police say Whetstone had a blood-alcohol level of 0.255 percent.

The woman and eight children inside the home were not hurt.

Whetstine was arrested and taken to the Daviess County Security Center on two felony counts of residential entry and a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He is being held without bond until his initial court appearance.
