(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Commissioner approved a contract with Butler Fairman and Seufert Inc. to do the design work for Bridge 133 on SandPit Road.
The cost is estimated at $35,000.
In other business:
The commissioners gave Clerk Billie Tumey permission to dispose of 100 old voting machines. The machines have no value to the county.
The old machines are currently stored in the former JayC building on Mitchell Road.
Microvote Corp. will come get the machines, dismantle them and then recycle them at no cost to the county. They will keep the money earned from recycling them and for disposing of the old machines

The commissioners approved a request by Treasurer Paula Stewart to renew the lock box agreement with Hoosier Hills Credit Union who facilitates the agreement with Main Source Bank.
The renew date is March 1.
"We have had this agreement with Hoosier Hills for six years," Stewart added.
The commissioners also approved a contract with eGov Strategies, LLC to process resident's credit cards for tax payments.
The company will charge residents 2.75 percent of the total to use their credit cards. But if residents want the money taken directly out of their checking account the company will only charge $1.50 for the transaction.
Stewart also noted the placement of the limestone benches around the courthouse and thanked Tri County Builders and highway and bridge crews for their assistance.

Sheriff Mike Branham presented the Emergency Management report because Director Valerie Luchauer was out assisting homeowners and business owners who had damage to their property after violent storms hit the area last week.
Sheriff Branham says a total of 12 homes were damaged on Old Ind. 60 West in the 90 degree curve, east of Thompson Lane, Suddath Lane and Thralls Road where three turkey barns were destroyed.
The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down about seven miles southeast of Mitchell on Wednesday morning. According to a NWS report, an EF-2 tornado hit at 5:37 a.m. with a maximum wind speed of 130 mph. It was estimated to be 25 yards wide and traveled for 0.58 miles.
Sheriff Branham praised Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department for taking command. He also praised all of the other volunteer fire departments, highway and bridge crews, police officers and dispatch and residents who helped in the clean up efforts and assisting to make sure everyone was safe.
"It was excellent work," Sheriff Branham says. "For that large of an area, we had the area covered in a small amount of time."
No one was injured in Lawrence County during the storms.
"They did have a few [injuries] on the Orange County side, but they were minor injuries and transported for precautionary measures," Sheriff Branham added.

Sheriff Branham reported there were 126 inmates in the county jail. Of those 24 are female, 5 are Department of Corrections holds and 12 at Level 6 felons.
"The number is up a little today, but that is because it is Monday and the numbers are up from the weekend," Sheriff Branham added. "That number will drop after some of them go to court this afternoon and are granted bond and the DOC inmates are transported to other facilities."
