Last updated on Tuesday, March 21, 2017

(SEYMOUR) - Longtime Seymour Middle School custodian 71-year-old George Hoffman has been named a Top 10 finalist in a nationwide contest to find the Janitor of the Year.

The Seymour Tribune reports that Hoffman, who has spent the last 48 years as a school custodian, was nominated by the middle school staff for his dedication to providing a clean school environment for students, staff and the public.

He has been at the school since it opened in the fall of 1981 and before that worked at Shields Junior High.

In order to win the $10,000 grand prize, half of which will go to school, Hoffman needs to receive the most votes. The public can cast their vote through April 14 at www.cintas.com/JOTY.

The contest is sponsored by Cintas Corp.
