(UNDATED) - Duke Energy crews have now restored all but about 1,000 customers in Indiana following a strong storm system that roared through the state Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

These customers, located mostly in the Madison area, can expect to have power restored by 9 p.m. tonight.

"Our crews have made terrific progress making repairs under difficult circumstances," said Howard Fowler, Duke Energy storm director. "We're in the home stretch now and we thank our customers for their patience and support during this restoration work."

Customer outages peaked at 30,683 on Wednesday. Since the beginning of the storm, 77,067 customers had been restored as of 9 a.m. today.

From the peak outage, approximately 96 percent of Indiana customers have been restored.

"There may be isolated, scattered outages that remain, depending on individual cases," Fowler said, "but our crews will continue to work until all services are restored."

Duke Energy urges customers to stay away from power lines that are sagging or laying on the ground. Consider all power lines as energized, as well as trees or limbs in contact with power lines. Please report downed power lines to Duke Energy.
