City Continues To Address Flooding Issues On North Side Of Bedford

Last updated on Friday, March 24, 2017

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Board of Works approved an agreement to address storm water improvements on the north side of Bedford.

Currently the area along Lincoln Avenue and Fifth Street and other north side streets are plagued with flash flooding after heavy rains. Overflow goes into the city's sanitary sewer system, which then flows into the White River, during heavy rain.

The Board of Public Works and Safety on Monday approved an agreement for engineering and consulting services with Lochmueller Group for $163,200 for project design and consulting.

The project is part of a long-term utilities plan to upgrade the city's storm water system as required by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. After IDEM sent the city a formal notice of violation to fix the flooding problem.

The project should begin in late summer or early fall, following the bidding process and awarding of the project.
