Bob Knight To Appear At Bloomington High School North On March 30

Last updated on Tuesday, March 7, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - Hall of Fame basketball coach Bob Knight, who led the Indiana University men’s team to three national championships and 11 Big Ten conference titles during his 29 years as the Hoosiers’ coach, will share stories from his life and career at a 7 p.m. March 30 presentation at Bloomington High School North.

Retired Herald-Times sports editor Bob Hammel, who has co-authored two books with Knight, will moderate the discussion and offer his observations on Knight's career and time at IU.

Public appearances by Knight in Bloomington have been rare since his firing as IU coach in 2000. He has given speeches across the state and the Midwest since that time, including campaign appearances this past fall with President Donald Trump.

According to a news release from Bloomington North, 3,000 general admission tickets are available for the March event. Tickets are $25 each, and there will be a purchase limit of six tickets per person. Each attendee will receive a limited-edition sports program.

Knight will speak for 75 minutes "sharing stories of inspiration, achievement and lessons learned over his career."

A contract for Bloomington North states the school will receive $2 for each ticket sold for its athletic fund, and they will keep up to $1,500 of receipts to cover the cost of staging the program. Listed as promoter for the event is Chance W. Bunger of Circle City Realty LLC, an Indianapolis real estate company.

Knight finished his coaching career at Texas Tech University, retiring in 2008 with a 902-371 career record; at the time, it was the most wins of any Division I college men's basketball coach. Besides the three NCAA championships, Knight also coached the 1984 U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal. In addition, he is the coach of the last undefeated Division I men's basketball championship team, the 1976 Hoosiers.
