Bloomington Community Farmers' Market Opens Saturday

Last updated on Friday, March 31, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market opens this Saturday.

Visitors to the farmers' market, located at Eighth and Morton streets in the Showers Complex, next to City Hall, can purchase from a number of vendors offering fruits, vegetables, meats and more.

This is the 43rd season for the market.

Mayor John Hamilton will kick off the season's popular "Mayor at the Market" series.

Mayor at the Market is an opportunity for residents and visitors to talk about city issues, current projects and future initiatives in an informal setting with the mayor and city department heads.

Join the mayor from Noon till 1 p.m. in front of City Hall, 401 N. Morton St., to experience this Bloomington tradition and enjoy fresh produce, entertainment and offerings from many local vendors.

The market is open every Saturday from April through November from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and every Saturday from April through September and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in October and November.

Along with fresh produce, visitors to the market also can purchase prepared food this season from local vendors.

On Saturday, the Hop Jockeys home brewing club will have a beer brewing demonstration.

The market again will double Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamp) dollars -- up to $18 -- as funding allows this year, according to a city news release. Shoppers can use their SNAP cards to purchase "Market Bucks" that can be used like cash to buy food stamp-eligible products.

For more information on the farmers' market or available products, call the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation office at (812) 349-3700 or visit bloomington.in.gov/farmersmarket.
