(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police arrested a man who entered the McDonald's on East Third Street, held a gun to the manager's head and robbed the restaurant.

According to Captain Steven Kellams, detectives were able to develop a suspect based on witnesses statements.

The witnesses told police they thought the robber was a former employee and they had seen that employee with the same mask last year and had photos of the employee wearing it. They also told police they recognized the employee by his voice.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect's apartment. With the use of the Departments Critical Incident Response Team, the warrant was served. Police found 20-year-old Juan Ramon Rivera at the apartment. He was arrested without incident on felony charges of robbery and criminal confinement.

Rivera told police he robbed the McDonald's because he couldn't pay his rent.

Police recovered all of the clothing, two masks along with half of the money. They also found the handgun and pellet gun.

Police were alerted to the robbery at 3 a.m. Wednesday morning at the McDonald's at 2819 East Third Street.

The manager told police that a man wearing a clown mask and armed with a black semi-automatic handgun pointed it at him and demanded all the money out of the cash register. After taking the money, the masked man ordered the manager to unlock the back office where the safe was located. The manager complied and when they entered the office, the manager says they found the safe had been left open.

The masked robber took around $900 and fled.

The manager described the robber as being a light complected black man, around 6 feet tall, wearing all black clothing, white shoes and a clown mask.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bloomington Police Department at (812) 339-4477.
