(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Police Department were praised for their efforts during the Bloomfield Town Council meeting Tuesday.

According to Police Chief Kenny Tharp, Reserve officer Grant Thornton was recognized for his life saving measures.

During a home basketball game Thornton began administering CPR on a man who was found unresponsive. Chief Tharp then arrived on the scene and the two switched off performing CPR for about 20 minutes waiting on an ambulance crew to arrive from Linton.

Tharp said everything worked out and the man recovered from the incident.

Tharp received a post card from a family that was traveling through Bloomfield on their bikes in May.

The family, including their 12-year-old daughter, were traveling across the United States and had asked permission to pitch a tent in the park overnight.

After hearing about the family on social media, Tharp went to the park and let the family stay in the air-conditioned shelter house to escape the heat.

The post card, shared with the town council, expressed the family's gratitude to Bloomfield for showing 'Hoosier hospitality.'
