(BEDFORD) - A Bedford Middle School student was arrested Tuesday after he made threats to seriously harm students at the school.
Bedford Police officers investigated the threats and arrested the student. The name of the student is not going to be released.
"Because of his age we are not going to release his name," says Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley.
Parsley says they found a list of students the 12-year-old boy had threatened to harm.
"Besides the list of names he intended to target, he had written out specific detailed plans on what he planned to do," Chief Parsley added.
None of the names on the list included teachers.
Police arrested the boy on a charge of intimidation and he was transported to the Jackson County Detention Center.
Chief Parsley says detectives determined no other students were involved with the threats.
North Lawrence Community School Superintendent Gary Conner asked Assistant Principal Kelly Storms to contact the parents of all students whose names were on the list.
"There is absolutely no connection to the incident at BMS with the situation at BNL," Conner added.
On February 15, Lawrence County Police arrested 14-year-old Evan Brown after police found items indicating a plan and items to be used to carry out that plan to cause harm to students at BNL. Brown was arrested on a Level 6 felony charge of intimidation. He was then taken to the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center.
Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley says there will be an increased police presence at the school on Wednesday.
"The police presence will demonstrate security and to provide assurance that BMS is a safe place," Conner stated. "I truly appreciate the working relationship between the two law enforcement agencies. By working together, they (Bedford and Lawrence County Police) help everyone. This community is blessed because of how they do what they do."
Parents at Bedford Middle school were alerted about the incident at 7:30 p.m.
"Because of the situation at BNL, I am concerned that the incident at BMS may create elevated concerns within the community," Conner added. " I plan to work with BPD Chief Parsley and LCPD Sheriff Branham to see how we can provide comfort and assurance to a concerned community."
For the remainder of the week, Conner says there will be four officers on the school grounds at BNL.
"I want to extend the coverage to provide additional assurance that the campus is safe," Conner says. "I plan to activate a similar plan at BMS."
