Rock With Semple At Becky's Place Mardi Gras Shelterbration

(BEDFORD) - Don't forget to purchase your tickets for the Becky's Place Mardi Gras Shelterbration on February 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Shamrock Center at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School.

Becky's Place is a shelter for homeless women and children in Lawrence County.

The event is Saturday Feb 25th at 6 p.m. at St. Vincent Shamrock Center with catering by Terry's Catering and music by Semple.

Those attending should dress in Mardi Gras fashion.

In 2016 the shelter served:

  • 100 residents. Of those 63 were adults and 37 children. The average age of the women range from 35 to 44 years old. The average age of children range from 5 to 21-years-old. Two women over the age of 62 were given shelter. Of those 37 were Lawrence County residents.
  • Three veterans were housed.
  • Those entering with no income were 63.
  • Those with existing income by employment or government assistance were 58
  • The average stay at the shelter is 48 days.
  • Of those entering the shelter, 51 percent moved into permanent housing

There will be a silent auction, photo booth and guest will hear from former shelter residents.

The cost to attend is $40 a person a table of 8 for $320. Tickets are on sale at the Bedford Area Chamber, Bedford Federal Savings Bank and the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church office and WBIW/WQRK/WPHZ.

Remaining tickets will be sold at the door on first-come, first-serve basis.
