Last updated on Thursday, February 16, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Springville man was arrested after a vehicle and foot pursuit and drugs were found in a vehicle.

At 11:36 p.m. a Lawrence County Police officer was on patrol on Logan Bottoms Road when he noticed a black sedan parked along the roadway with three people inside the vehicle. According to Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, the officer stopped to investigate and that is when the driver took off at a high-rate of speed.

The vehicle failed to stop and the officer pursued the vehicle with speeds reaching around 70 miles per hour on several county roads.

The pursuit continued on Hayes Road to Guthrie Road and then on Judah Logan Road. At 11:46 p.m. the officer reported to dispatch there were traveling along Donica Church Road. The sedan ran off the roadway in the 1400 block of Donica Church Road and traveled into a thicket of brush.

Three people exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

After a short foot pursuit, a male and female were detained. The driver remains at large. Bedford Police K-9 unit was called to assist.

"The driver fled the scene on foot and remains at large, but has been identified," says Chief Deputy Shoults. "That part of the investigation is on-going. Charges are pending."

An IU Health Hospital ambulance was called to check the two because of the vehicle running off the roadway.

"The air-bags (of the sedan) did deploy during impact when the vehicle became airborne during the pursuit," Chief Deputy Shoults added. "One of our patrol cars suffered a minor dent to the front bumper at the end of the pursuit when the suspect vehicle drove off the roadway with the officer in pursuit."

During their investigation police found a white powdery substance which tested positive for meth, pills which were identified as Dextroamphetamine and Amphetamine, both controlled substances, digital scales and small baggies.

One passenger, 25-year-old Matthew Reynolds of Springville, was arrested on a charge of possession of meth and a Schedule II controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance. A female was released.
