(BLOOMINGTON) - Homeowners in two unincorporated areas of Monroe County will see a sizable increase in the property taxes they pay this year.
The Herald Times reports that property tax rates in Bloomington Township for those living outside the city limits and in Washington Township -- both part of the Northern Monroe County Fire Protection Territory -- jumped by 23.7 percent and 48.5 percent, respectively.
Those higher tax rates, though, come with the benefit of fire protection through the territory.
Taxpayers in most other areas will see much smaller increases, ranging from 0.04 percent in Indian Creek Township to 7.6 percent in Richland Township outside the city limits.
Taxpayers in three areas will have a decreased property tax rate -- Benton, Salt Creek and Van Buren townships.
Monroe County tax bills will be sent out in mid-April, with the first installment of the taxes due May 10.
