Maitlyn Alvey To Compete For The Distinguished Young Women Of Indiana Title

(KOKOMO) - Lawrence County Community Foundation’s 2017 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar Maitlyn Alvey will join high school senior girls from across Indiana in Kokomo for the Distinguished Young Women of Indiana program to be held February 16th, 17th, and 18th at IUK’s Havens Auditorium.

Participants will compete for $27,500 in college scholarships and the opportunity to represent the state as the Distinguished Young Woman of Indiana for 2017.

Alery is the daughter of Curt and Melissa Alvey. She is a Bedford North Lawrence High School senior and plans to pursue post-secondary in nursing at Indiana University.

The program is open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th. Tickets are $10. On Saturday the 18th the program starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $15

The 22 young women competing will be evaluated by a panel of five judges in the following categories: Scholastics (25%), Interview (25%), Talent (20%), Fitness (15%), and Self-Expression (15%).

The participant selected as the Distinguished Young Woman of Indiana will advance to the national level at the 60th Distinguished Young Women National Finals in Mobile, Alabama on June 29, 30 and July 1, 2017, where she will join with 50 other representatives from across the country in competing for cash scholarships and the opportunity to represent the program as the Distinguished Young Woman of America.
