Jurors Can't Reach Verdict, Judge Declares Mistrial

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Superior Court I Judge Michael Robbins declared a mistrial Thursday night after the jury in the child molesting trial of Charles Parker failed to reach a verdict.

The 12-person jury deliberated for more than 9 hours before informing Judge Robbins they could not reach a decision.

Now 56-year-old Parker will face another jury of his peers on June 19.

The jury was sent for deliberation at 10:10 a.m. after hearing closing statements from Prosecutor Michelle Woodward and defense attorney John M. Plummer Jr.

Parker is accused of touching a 4-year-old girl and her 11-year-old cousin. The girls are now 5 and 13. He is facing charges of child molesting, a Level 4 felony; child molesting, a Class C felony; and child solicitation, a Class D felony.
