(BEDFORD) - An Indianapolis man was arrested after he led police on a vehicle pursuit Wednesday night.

Lawrence County Police arrested 59-year-old Timothy Strickland on a warrant out of Marion County for failing to register as a sex offender. He was also charged locally with resisting arrest by fleeing in a vehicle in addition to reckless driving.

According to Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, an officer attempted to stop the vehicle Stickland was driving on State Road 37, south of 16th Street, around 8:55 p.m. The officer knew Strickland was wanted on a warrant out of Marion County.

According to police logs, after the officer turned on his lights to stop Strickland, he sped off passing John Williams Boulevard at more than 100 miles per hour.

Strickland continued north on Ind. 37 passing Oolitic, approaching Trogdon Lane.

At 9 p.m. the vehicle was westbound on Springville Judah Road where an Indiana State Police trooper joined the pursuit.

The vehicle continued northbound on Gasline Road and almost wrecked.

The Lawrence County officer requested a K-9 unit because he believed Strickland would attempt to flee the vehicle once he stopped.

At 9:02 p.m. the vehicle was eastbound on Sieboldt Quarry Road, then crossed Ind. 37 and was southbound on Old 37.

At 9:04 p.m. the vehicle pulled over at Old Ind. 37 and Maddox Lane by Marshall VFD fire barn.

Strickland was arrested without incident and taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
