(BEDFORD) - Bedford Fire Department firefighters were called to an apartment fire at the Hauck House on Wednesday at 12:33 p.m.

The fire was contained to one apartment on the 4th floor.

"There was a rescue and one man was taken out of the apartment," says Battalion Chief John Hughes. "He was transported to a local hospital and then flown to Indianapolis for treatment."

Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly preventing it from spreading.

There was smoke throughout the fourth floor.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
