Last updated on Monday, February 20, 2017

(PATOKA) - A 17-year-old Celestine teenager died early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Purdue Farm Road near Patoka Lake.

According to a Dubois County Sheriff's report, shortly after 3 a.m., 17-year-old Chad Knies was traveling westbound when his 1998 Chevrolet truck ran off the roadway on a curve, struck an embankment and overturned and stopped on its top in a field about 50 feet off the roadway.

He was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from his vehicle.

Police are waiting on toxicology results to say if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Knies was a senior at Northeast Dubois High School.

Northeast Dubois high school says grief counselors will be at St. Celestine Parish Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. A prayer service will be held at the church at 2 p.m.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Department was assisted on scene by Indiana State Police, Dubois First Responders, Memorial Emergency Medical Services, the Dubois County Coroner's Office and Uebelhor and Sons wrecker service.
