(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man is dead and another is being charged with reckless homicide.
According to Bloomington Police Captain Steven Kellams, officers were called to the 2500 block of South Camden Drive at 3:41 p.m. after a 17-year-old boy dialed 911 to report a person had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Anthony Andrews in a bathroom, bleeding from a single gunshot wound to the neck.
"Attempts to revive Mr. Andrews failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene," Capt. Kellams wrote in an email.
Detectives spoke to witnesses and searched the residence.
According to Kellams, Andrews was in the residence with several friends, smoking "shatter" (a butane hash oil, which contains a very high THC content) and during that time, 21-year-old Malik Parker, picked up a .22 caliber rifle owned by Andrews.
"The individual commented on the rifle being heavy, pointed it at Mr. Andrews, and pulled the trigger," Kellams says. "The bullet struck Mr. Andrews in the neck. Mr. Andrews then walked to the bathroom, where he collapsed on the floor."
That is when the 17-year-old juvenile, who was also present during the incident dialed 911.
Parker was charged with reckless homicide and booked into the Monroe County Jail.
The death remains under investigation. An autopsy will be performed today in Terre Haute.
