Utility Assistance Request Most Frequent Calls Received At United Way 2-1-1

(BEDFORD) - Individuals trying to meet their most basic needs were the highest requests that the United Way 2-1-1 Service received during the 4th Quarter of 2016.

Utility Assistance was the most frequent requests (27%), followed by requests for Housing (26%), and Food/Meals (20%) rounding out the top 3.

There were 12 unmet needs for the quarter. The majority were individual, 5 request for support for the holiday
Most of the unmet services resulted from no resources being available to help the individual or families.

In the fourth quarter, 2-1-1 received 71 requests for service from Lawrence County and provided 181 referrals.

Texting is now available at 2-1-1 added a new way to get resources. Resources are available via text message by texting your zip code to 898-211, as well as dialing 2-1-1 and searching the online database at www.referweb.net/uwbc.

February 11th is National 2-1-1 day.

This year because it falls on a Saturday, the annual open house will be held Friday, Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Bedford office at 1531 13th St.

The public will be able to meet the staff, tour the call center, observe actual calls and enjoy good food.
