Two Arrested After Solicitation For Prostitution Turns Into Robbery

(BLOOMINGTON) - A man reported he was robbed Monday night after he solicited a prostitute for sex.

Bloomington police were called to a convenience store in the 1100 block of West 11th Street at 11:50 p.m. Monday after man called police.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, the man admitted he went to the store to meet a prostitute he had contacted on Craigslist.

The woman got into the man's car and they left the store, but they didn't go far when the two began arguing over price.

The man pulled over in the 1200 block of West 12th Street to discuss the issue. That is when a man walked up to the car, spoke to the woman in Spanish and then both demanded the driver's money. The man then began attacking the driver. During the attack the woman took the driver's wallet. The man began fighting back and that is when the man pulled out a handgun and the two fled.

The driver was not seriously injured during the struggle.

Police were able to track the woman's cell phone number from Craigslist post and - 31-year-old April Honeycutt and her boyfriend 31-year-old Luis Perez, both of Bloomington.

During their investigation, police discovered the two had taken a cab to the Motel 6 on North Walnut Street.

Capt. Kellams says both admitted to their parts in the crime.

Honeycutt was arrested on charges of robbery, prostitution and possession of a controlled substance (heroin). Perez is facing charges of robbery and assault.
