Registered Sex Offender Arrested After Peeking Into Windows

(HUNTINGBURG) - A Huntingburg man was arrested after Jasper Police found him peeking into a window and armed with knives.

Police arrested 29-year-old Gary Hires, a registered sex offender, on a felony charge of stalking with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of false informing. He is being held in the Dubois County Security Center.

According to police, officers were called to the 200 block of St. Charles Street around 2 a.m. Thursday, after a woman reported Hires had been tapping on her windows and looking inside.

When police arrived they found Hires at the window. He was armed with knives and police were able to connect him to a false report of a stolen vehicle.
