Orange County Beef Improvement Seminar Jan. 21

(PAOLI) - The 2017 Beef Cow/Calf Improvement Seminar on January 21 will focus on factors that affect meat quality.

The seminar will be held at the Orange County Community Center, at 1075 N. Sandy Hook Road, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The seminar will explore the nutrition, genetic and environmental influences on meat quality, according to a press release from Purdue Extension Washington County.

Speaking at the seminar are Gordon Jones, retired WKU animal science professor, Purdue University's assistant professor of animal sciences, Stacy Zuelly; Gregg Rentfrow, meat science specialist at University of Kentucky and Wes Hornback, cattle technical specialist with Purina Mills LLC. Topics include consumer trends in beef quality, genetic selection related to meat quality and fetal programming's effect on meat quality.

Early registration, on or before January 13, is $20 or $15 for students with paying advisers or parents. After January 13, cost is $30. To register, contact Purdue Extension Washington County at (812) 883-4601 or email dhowellw@purdue.edu.
