New Webmaster Announced For Hoosier National Forest

Last updated on Thursday, January 5, 2017

(BEDFORD) - Chase Martin is the new webmaster for the Hoosier National Forest (NF) and several other national forests in the Forest Service’s Eastern Region.

His office is located in Bedford, but he will manage external and internal websites for national forests in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois as well as the National Tallgrass Prairie in Illinois.

Martin chose Bedford as a duty location for this new position with the Forest Service. A native of Indiana, Martin was born in Vincennes. He and his wife Amy Payne both graduated from High School in Veedersburg, IN. They went on to Indiana University where he received both a bachelors and master's degree in telecommunications. His focus was in digital media production and interactive storytelling; specifically how story changes in the new media environment and how narrative can be leveraged to improve communication.

Martin brings a variety of experience including instructional design, education, web development, and game design. He has worked for global corporate clients, as part of small startups, and for a contractor for government agencies to create web applications that engage audiences and assist people in performing their jobs.

"I'm thrilled to be working for the Forest Service", Martin said. "I've always felt connected to nature and the forest, but I never thought I had the background to make it my profession. I've been surprised to learn about the diverse knowledge and talents it takes to manage a forest and I look forward to serving in my own unique capacity."

Martin's wife Amy serves as a public defense attorney for Monroe County. The couple have a young son and live in Bloomington. In his free time, Martin enjoys hiking with his son and learning to mountain bike on the Forest.
