Man Arrested After Burglarizing Seven Bloomington Residents

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police have arrested a homeless man who they say burglarized seven residents while students were on Christmas break.

Police arrested 47-year-old Don Perrus after he allegedly pawned the stolen items at local pawn shops.

Police arrested Perrus at a storage unit in the 1000 block of West Allen Street. Capt. Steve Kellams says the unit was full of stolen items.

Capt. Kellams says Perrus also admitted to breaking into a parked vehicle and may be responsible for two other burglaries. The theft from a car took place on the 300 block of West 12th Street.

"He admitted that he had spent the night in one of the residents he burglarized," Capt. Kellams added. "Over the holiday break, he consistently targeting student housing areas."

The items are connected to burglaries that occurred on the 100 block of East Eighth Street, the 700 block of North Park Avenue, the 1300 block of North Washington Street, the 600 block of North College Avenue, the 1100 block of North Indiana Avenue, the 400 block of North Dunn Street and the 200 block of North Grant Street.

Police are in the process of returning the stolen items which were mostly electronics and jewelry to the victims, but it will take some time.

Perrus is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $20,000 surety, $500 cash bond. He also faces theft charges in Owen and Johnson counties.
