Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Department To Host Public Meeting Over Contract Dispute

Last updated on Monday, January 16, 2017

(FAYETTEVILLE) - A public meeting will be held Tuesday at the Indian Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department to discuss the ongoing dispute between the department and Township Trustee Kyle Hall.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the fire station located on Ind. 158.

The disagreement - leaving at least tanker or pumper at the department at all times.

Firefighters are in favor of the contract with exceptions - they could take all three vehicles to fires in Perry and Spice Valley Townships and Padanaram if needed.

Indian Creek VFD public information officer Daniel Bruhn, says Williams VFD does not have the capability to put out a structure fire because of a problem with their pumper truck. Meaning Indian Creek would have to send all three of their vehicles.

The firefighters feel they have to assist neighboring townships when possible. They says only take all three vehicles out of the township at the most - three times a year.

If that exception would be listed in the contract, the department is willing to agree on the contract. But Hall says that exception is no longer on the table and feels the township should not pay for fire protection in other townships - leaving Indian Creek Township without fire coverage.

All Lawrence County volunteer fire departments have a mutual aide agreement. Which ensures if one department does not have volunteers able to respond, another department will assist with manpower and equipment.
