I-69 Construction Zone Traffic Enforcement Leads To Several Drug Arrests

(MONROE CO.) - The first three weeks of January have proven extremely demanding for Indiana State Police Bloomington District Troopers and K9 Drogos as they continue to heavily patrol the I-69 Construction zone from Bloomington to Martinsville.

Numerous traffic stops have lead to the following felony and misdemeanor drug charges;

January 3: Trooper Zach Parker conducted a traffic stop in the Construction Zone along SR37. During the course of the stop, criminal indicators were detected. Trp. Allen Deel deployed his K9 Drogos, who gave a positive indication on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed marijuana, syringes, and drug paraphernalia. Trp. Parker arrested two suspects on multiple drug related charges.

January 6: Trp. Zach Parker conducted a traffic stop in the construction zone along Ind. 37. During the course of the stop, he observed criminal indicators. Trp. Allen Deel deployed his K9 Drogos, who gave a positive indication on the vehicle. Troopers located marijuana and paraphernalia in the vehicle. Both occupants were cited for marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges.

January 6: Trp. Matt Harris conducted a traffic stop along the Ind. 37 construction zone. Trp. Harris observed indicators of criminal activity. Trp. Allen Deel was called and deployed his K9 Drogos, who gave a positive alert for narcotics in the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, troopers discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Trp. Harris cited two occupants for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

January 9: Trp. Chris Griggs conducted a traffic stop and observed ammunition and a syringe in plain view. Trp. Griggs recovered multiple syringes, a handgun, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Trp. Griggs arrested the driver for possession of a handgun without a permit (with a previous conviction) and possession of paraphernalia. He arrested the passenger for possession of hypodermic syringes, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.

January 9: Trp. Matt Harris conducted a traffic stop that revealed a female passenger had lied about her identity. Once she truthfully identified herself, it was discovered that she had two active arrest warrants - one for fraud and one for theft. Trp. Harris arrested the female on the warrants and for providing a false identity statement.

January 12: Sgt. Greg Day conducted a traffic stop for speeding in the Ind. 37 construction zone. During the stop, he detected signs of criminal activity. Once again Trp. Allen Deel deployed his K9, Drogos, who gave a positive alert on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed marijuana and several pieces of drug paraphernalia. Sgt. Day cited three for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

January 15: While participating in an I-69 Construction Zone Special Patrol along Ind. 37, Trp. Matt Harris conducted a traffic stop. The female driver had three children under the age of 12 in the vehicle, was found to be in intoxicated. She tested more than twice the legal limit and Trp. Harris arrested her for operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment and neglect of a dependent.

January 15: While working an I-69 Construction Zone Special Patrol, Trp. Zach Parker conducted a traffic stop. During the course of the stop, Trp. Parker observed indicators of criminal activity. Again, Trp. Allen Deel deployed his K9 Drogos, who gave a positive alert on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed 11 grams of meth, 5 grams of heroin, 2 grams of cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Trp. Parker arrested the driver for several drug related charges including dealing in all of the listed narcotics.

January 18: While participating in an I-69 Construction Zone Special Patrol, Trp. Chris Griggs stopped a vehicle for a speeding violation. During the stop, he detected indicators of criminal activity. Trp. Allen Deel deployed his K9 Drogos, who positively indicated on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed marijuana and paraphernalia. The occupants of the vehicle were cited on marijuana and paraphernalia charges.

January 18: Trp. Chris Griggs was participating in an I-69 Construction Zone Special Patrol and conducted a traffic stop. After detecting indicators of criminal activity, Trp. Allen Deel deployed his K9, Drogos, who gave a positive alert on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed marijuana and synthetic marijuana. Trp. Griggs cited the driver for the drug offenses.

January 18: While participating in an I69 Construction Zone Special Patrol, Trp. Zach Parker conducted a traffic stop and detected indicators of criminal activity. Once again, Trp. Allen Deel deployed his K9 Drogos, who gave a positive alert on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed a meth pipe and a baggie with meth residue, along with marijuana. Trp. Parker arrested the suspect for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
